The pyruvic acid produced by glycolisis in mucscle cells ferments to what? during strenuous muscle activity?

Lactic acid. The ATP yield is the same as alcoholic fermentation but no CO2 is given off and lactic acid retains all three carbons from pyruvic acid. Eventually it's converted back into pyruvic in the liver.
