lb for lb the lower calorific value is much the same for diesel, kerosane and gasolines. there is a bit of difference depending on the batch but very close they are, though if anything diesel tends to have a bit more than gas i think. the problem with useing a diesel to power stuff on a plane is the weight, even though less fuel can be carried the engine itself tends to weigh more negating the benifit. back in the days when the piston engine dominated the sky some people tried to make full sized aviation engines that were diesel but the octane # of av gas rose making the diesels percived performance inferior and squashing the effort from what ive read.
